FAQs

What is Corrieshalloch Gorge?

Corrieshalloch Gorge is a mile-long box canyon near Ullapool in Wester Ross, where the River Droma drops 150 feet over the Falls of Measach, the most impressive waterfall in the North West Highlands. The National Trust for Scotland cares for it, and you can reach a Victorian suspension bridge and viewing platform right above the falls.

How far is Corrieshalloch Gorge from Ullapool?

The gorge is about 12 miles south-east of Ullapool, roughly a 20-minute drive on the A835. It sits at the junction with the A832 and makes a natural North Coast 500 stop between Ullapool and Inverness.

Is Corrieshalloch Gorge easy to visit?

It's very accessible. A short walk from the car park brings you to the suspension bridge and viewing platform over the Falls of Measach. The paths can be steep and slippery when wet, but you reach the main viewpoints within a few minutes. The site is open year-round and admission is free.

What makes Corrieshalloch Gorge special?

It's one of Britain's finest box canyons, its sheer walls dropping 60 metres in places and draped in ferns, mosses and ancient woodland. The Victorian suspension bridge sways gently above the river and gives a real sense of the canyon's scale, and the Falls of Measach in full spate are a genuinely dramatic sight.
