Leaving Glasgow behind, you'll travel to the coast at Wemyss Bay, home to one of the most beautiful railway stations in Scotland with its sweeping glass roof and Victorian elegance. From here, you'll board the ferry for the short and scenic crossing to the Isle of Bute.
Rothesay & Rothesay Castle
Arriving in the charming town of Rothesay, you'll discover a grand Victorian seaside resort that was once the holidaying favourite of Glaswegians. At its heart stands Rothesay Castle, a rare and remarkable circular fortress dating back to the 13th century, complete with a water-filled moat. Once besieged by Norse invaders, it's one of the most unusual and important medieval castles in Scotland.

Built in the late 19th century by the incredibly wealthy 3rd Marquess of Bute, this astonishing Gothic palace was a marvel of its age. Step inside the breathtaking Marble Hall beneath its star-spangled ceiling, then explore the 300 acres of beautiful gardens and woodland that surround the house. - Mount Stuart is open seasonally, with entry subject to operating hours.
Scalpsie Bay
Before catching the ferry home, we'll pause at the beautiful Scalpsie Bay on the island's west coast — the best spot on Bute to see its resident seals basking on the rocks, with sweeping views across to the Isle of Arran beyond. A peaceful and memorable end to your island adventure.

Since the day is built around the ferry sailings, your guide will plan the timings to keep everything running smoothly.
