The West of Scotland is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes. As you explore the charming seaside town of Oban and marvel at the stunning views of Glencoe and Loch Awe you’ll never want to leave.

Along the tour, you’ll have the opportunity to stop at one of Scotland’s most stunning viewpoints: the Rest and be Thankful. From here, you can see down into the valley.

As you journey towards Loch Lomond and the quaint village of Luss, you’ll definitely want to stop for a picture on the pier with the loch and Ben Lomond in the background.

Itinerary

Morning
Lochs, Castles & the Heart of Argyll

Hotel Pick-up
Your own personal guide will pick you up right outside your hotel, usually arriving 15 minutes before your tour begins, ensuring a warm and seamless start to your experience.

Breathtaking Views at the Rest and Be Thankful
Simply spectacular. There are no words that can describe the beauty of the Rest and Be Thankful, and it's one of the most dramatic valleys you'll ever see. Winding through the valley, you'll also see the old road which was used during the Jacobite times as a military route.

The Fishing Village of Inveraray
Wander through the picturesque streets of Inveraray, visit the Old Sweet Shop, or stop for a coffee. Overlooking the banks of Loch Fyne, the county town was originally created and planned by the Duke of Argyll in 1745. On the edge of the town, you'll also find Inveraray Castle, set within extensive grounds with beautiful views over towards the loch. As you pass by, catch a glimpse of the historic Inveraray Jail nearby — a quick window into the town's past.

Loch Awe & the Ruins of Kilchurn Castle
One of Scotland's most photographed castles, you'll no doubt have seen it before. Kilchurn Castle is a spectacular medieval ruin that sits on an 'island' on Loch Awe. Originally, this wasn't an island, but actually part of the mainland before the water level dropped. Its most famous claim to fame is during the Jacobite Rebellion, when it was used as a stronghold for the British.

Lunch
Your guide will provide you with a variety of lunch options, ensuring there's something to suit every taste and dietary preference.

Afternoon
Oban, Glencoe & the Bonnie Banks

The Town of Oban – 'Gateway to the Isles'
Known for its stunning natural scenery, historic architecture, and delicious seafood, Oban is a popular destination for many visitors to Scotland. One of the main draws of Oban is its stunning coastal views, with panoramic vistas of the Firth of Lorn and the surrounding islands. The town is home to a number of historic buildings, including McCaig's Tower and St Columba's Cathedral, a beautiful neo-Gothic church dating back to the 1930s.

Glencoe
Glencoe is a stunningly beautiful valley, famous for its rugged mountain scenery, rich history, and outdoor activities. One of the main draws of Glencoe is its spectacular natural scenery, with towering peaks, cascading waterfalls, and crystal-clear lochs. For those interested in history and culture, Glencoe has plenty to offer as well. The area is steeped in history, with a tragic past that includes the infamous Massacre of Glencoe in 1692, when dozens of members of the MacDonald clan were killed by government soldiers. Glencoe is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Scotland's natural beauty, history, and outdoor activities. It's a perfect stop on a day trip. Whether you're looking for adventure or relaxation, Glencoe has something for everyone.

The World-Famous Village of Luss
The world-famous village of Luss on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond is truly picture-perfect. With its quaint little houses and picturesque loch-side location, it's a must-see destination when visiting Scotland. Walk along the pier and have your picture taken with views of Ben Lomond in the backdrop, before heading back to Glasgow at the end of your day.

Drop-off
Sit back and relax as your personal guide drops you back at your hotel, ensuring a comfortable and hassle-free end to your journey.

What our Guests say

FAQs

Is Oban a good place for seafood?

Oban is often called the Seafood Capital of Scotland, and its harbour-side restaurants serve some of the freshest catch you'll find anywhere, from langoustines to oysters straight from the surrounding waters.

How long is this tour?

This is a full-day Highland tour covering some distance, so you can expect an early start and a later return. The spectacular scenery along the way is very much part of the experience, and you'll travel in complete comfort throughout.

What's the history behind Glencoe?

Glencoe is famous for both its breathtaking mountain scenery and its tragic past. In 1692 the infamous Massacre of Glencoe saw members of the MacDonald clan killed by government soldiers, and your guide will share the full, moving story.

Can we take a ferry to the islands from Oban?

Oban is the gateway to the Hebrides, and you'll see the busy harbour where the ferries depart. Island crossings aren't part of this particular day tour, but it's a wonderful spot to enjoy the views out to the isles.

Will we visit any distilleries?

Oban has its own well-known distillery right in the heart of the town, and your guide can point it out or build in a visit if whisky is of interest. Just get in touch if you'd like to add a distillery visit.
