Itinerary

Morning
The Road to the Western Highlands

Hotel Pick-up
Your own personal guide will pick you up right outside your hotel, usually arriving 15 minutes before your tour begins, ensuring a warm and seamless start to your experience.

Loch Lomond, Luss
Your journey begins on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond at the picture-perfect village of Luss. With its quaint little houses and loch-side location, it's one of the prettiest villages imaginable, and a wonderful place to stretch your legs and take a few photographs as you set off into the Highlands.

Vast Views of Rannoch Moor
A haven for wildlife, this remote expanse of around 50 square miles is truly spectacular. Enjoy breathtaking views as we drive through this other-worldly landscape.

The Dramatic Scenery of Glencoe
The towering mountains of Glencoe are a sight to behold. But behind the beauty lies tragedy. The Massacre of Glencoe in 1692 is forever remembered as one of the most despicable acts of betrayal in Scottish history. The beauty and the history combine to make the atmosphere of this place something special.

Lunch
Your guide will provide you with a variety of lunch options, ensuring there's something to suit every taste and dietary preference.

Afternoon
Glenfinnan & the Jacobite Story

The Glenfinnan Viaduct
One of the most photographed structures in all of Scotland, the magnificent Glenfinnan Viaduct sweeps in a graceful curve of 21 arches across the glen. You may well recognise it as the route of the 'Hogwarts Express' from the Harry Potter films. If your visit is well timed, you may even catch the famous steam train making its way across the viaduct, with the still waters of Loch Shiel stretching out below — a truly magical sight.

The Glenfinnan Monument
At the head of Loch Shiel stands the Glenfinnan Monument, marking one of the most significant moments in Scottish history. It was here, in August 1745, that Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard and rallied the Highland clans to his cause, launching the Jacobite Rising. The lone kilted Highlander atop the tower gazes out over one of the most beautiful and poignant landscapes in the country.

Drop-off
Sit back and relax as your personal guide drops you back at your hotel, ensuring a comfortable and hassle-free end to your journey.

What our Guests say

FAQs

Do we ride the Harry Potter steam train?

This tour takes you to the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct viewpoint, where, with good timing, you can watch the steam train sweep across the arches, just as in the films. Riding the train itself is a separate, seasonal experience that books up well in advance.

When can we see the steam train crossing the viaduct?

The Jacobite steam train runs seasonally, usually from late spring into autumn, and crossings are timed, so seeing it depends on the weather and the schedule. The viaduct itself is spectacular to visit at any time of year.

How long is this tour?

This is one of our longer day tours, as Glenfinnan lies deep in the western Highlands. You can expect an early start and a later return, with breathtaking scenery filling every mile in the comfort of your private V-Class.

What's the Jacobite history behind this tour?

At Glenfinnan, you'll see the monument marking the very spot where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard in 1745 to launch the Jacobite Rising, one of the most significant and romantic moments in Scottish history.

What scenery will we see along the way?

The journey takes in the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, the haunting wilderness of Rannoch Moor and the towering mountains of Glencoe, a cinematic Highland landscape from start to finish.
