Overview

What you will see on this tour.

Beginning in Edinburgh, the first sight you’ll see is the breathtaking shores of Loch Leven.

From here, your private driver-guide will take you to the charming village of Falkland, where you'll visit Falkland Palace and Lindores Distillery - where whisky was first documented.

Discover the history and origins of Scotland’s famous spirit, how it is made, and have a dram or two before heading back to the city.

Itinerary

Morning
Bridges, Lochs & A Royal Palace

Hotel Pick-up
Your own personal guide will pick you up right outside your hotel, usually arriving 15 minutes before your tour begins, ensuring a warm and seamless start to your experience.

Forth Rail Bridge
As you leave Edinburgh, one of the first things you'll see is the Forth Rail Bridge. An iconic image of Scotland, the famous red structure was voted the most important manmade structure in Scotland, so it's no wonder it's now become a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Loch Leven
Driving through rolling hills and towering mountains, you'll pass by the still and beautiful waters of Loch Leven. A fantastic picture opportunity and a perfect start to your tour.

Falkland Palace
Falkland Palace is actually home to the world's oldest surviving royal tennis court – and was one of Mary, Queen of Scots', favourite royal hunting lodges. She was enchanted by the palace and its extensive formal gardens, where she would often pursue her hobbies of falconry, hunting, archery and tennis.

Lunch
Your guide will provide you with a variety of lunch options, ensuring there's something to suit every taste and dietary preference.

Afternoon
Outlander & the Home of Whisky

Outlander Filming Location – Falkland Village
Wander through the historic village of Falkland, which might feel familiar if you're a fan of the much-loved 'Outlander' series, as it served as a filming location for the opening scenes where Claire and Frank arrive for their second honeymoon.

Lindores Abbey Distillery
Lindores is among the most interesting distilleries in Scotland. Although the visitor centre opened recently, in 2017, it sits on the historic site where Scotch whisky was first recorded. Dating back to 1494, this old abbey is where a monk, Friar John Cor, was famously recorded as being supplied with malt to make "aqua vitae" – the earliest written record of whisky in Scotland.

During peak times, this distillery tour may be unavailable. We'll offer an alternative distillery tour and confirm with you before booking.

Drop-off
Sit back and relax as your personal guide drops you back at your hotel, ensuring a comfortable and hassle-free end to your journey.
