Overview

What you will see on this tour.

Make the most of your time ashore at Greenock on this private shore excursion through some of the most spectacular scenery in the west of Scotland. Your expert private guide collects you directly from the cruise terminal and manages the entire day around your ship's all-aboard time — so there is nothing to worry about except enjoying every moment.

The route takes you along the bonny banks of Loch Lomond to the conservation village of Luss, up to the dramatic viewpoint of Rest and Be Thankful, along the tranquil shores of Loch Eck, and into the elegant Georgian town of Inveraray on Loch Fyne. The return journey crosses the Firth of Clyde by ferry from Hunters Quay — a scenic finale to an extraordinary day.

Pickup Info
Every tour includes complimentary door-to-door service. Your guide meets you at your ship (or the tender port) ready to start your day. At the end of the tour, we drop you back. No meeting points, no hunting for a coach stop - just a relaxed experience from start to finish.

Itinerary

Morning
Luss, Rest and Be Thankful & Loch Eck

Ship Pick-up
Your own personal guide will pick you outside Greenock's Terminal building, usually arriving 30 minutes before your tour begins, ensuring a warm and seamless start to your experience.

Your first stop is the beautiful conservation village of Luss on the western shore of Loch Lomond — one of Scotland's most photographed villages, with its distinctive slate-roofed cottages clustered at the water's edge. In Gaelic, 'luss' means plant or herb, and the village in spring and summer is abloom with vibrant wildflowers. Stroll the village streets, view the stone cottages, or walk out onto the pier for a closer look at Loch Lomond and the hills beyond.

From Luss, your guide takes you west into the heart of Argyll, climbing to the celebrated viewpoint of Rest and Be Thankful — named for the words inscribed on a nearby stone by soldiers who built the original military road in 1753. Sitting at the head of Glen Croe at nearly 860 feet, the view down the glen is one of the most dramatic in Scotland.

Descending into the Cowal Peninsula, the road follows the shores of Loch Eck — a slender, beautiful freshwater loch hemmed between steep wooded hillsides, with an intimate and deeply peaceful character quite different from the grand open lochs of the north.

Afternoon
Inveraray, Dunoon & Ferry Return to Greenock

Your afternoon begins in Inveraray — one of Scotland's finest planned towns, its elegant white-painted Georgian architecture reflected in the still waters of Loch Fyne, with the wooded hills of the Argyll estate rising behind. Built in the 18th century by the Duke of Argyll, the town has a quiet grandeur and architectural coherence rare in the Highlands. There is time to explore the town, visit Inveraray Castle (optional, entrance fee applies), and enjoy lunch at one of the excellent local restaurants on the waterfront.

Your scenic return journey takes you through the Cowal Peninsula via the village of Dunoon — once a favourite Clyde resort for Glaswegians escaping the city by steamer. From here you board the ferry at Hunters Quay, crossing the Firth of Clyde to Gourock before the short drive back to Greenock Cruise Terminal — returning you to your ship in plenty of time before departure.

Drop Off
Sit back and relax as your personal guide drops you back at your ship, ensuring a comfortable and hassle-free end to your journey.
