The distillery nestles in a quiet, green valley under Dumgoyne Hill, with a small waterfall that locals say has a knack for sneaking into every photo.That invisible boundary shapes everything here. The whisky gets its start in the Highlands and takes its time maturing just over the line in the Lowlands. What sets Glengoyne apart? They skip the peat - air dries every grain of barley, so the whisky’s smooth, clean, and never smoky. The long rest in old sherry casks adds those rich, fruity notes - think Christmas cake and walnuts. It’s a hands-on process from start to finish, and the folks at Glengoyne are quietly proud of every bottle.

Glengoyne sits right on the Highland Line, the geological boundary between the Scottish Lowlands and Highlands, at Dumgoyne about 14 miles north of Glasgow and 2 miles from Loch Lomond. The whisky is distilled on the Highland side of that line and matured on the Lowland side.
It runs a wide range of tours and experiences year-round, from introductory distillery visits to premium cask tastings and blending sessions. It's one of the prettiest settings in Scottish whisky, with a waterfall behind the stillhouse and views across to Loch Lomond, and it gets busy, so book ahead.
It's an unpeated single malt with real elegance. Slow distillation and plenty of sherry-cask maturation bring notes of green apple, vanilla, toffee and Christmas cake, with a long, satisfying finish. It's often called one of the most handcrafted whiskies in Scotland.
It's about 14 miles north of Glasgow city centre, roughly 30 minutes by car on the A81. As one of the closest distilleries to the city, it slots easily into a Loch Lomond or Trossachs day tour.
