With over 260 years of history, it proudly stands as Scotland’s oldest working distillery - a true living treasure for whisky lovers.Set beside the gentle flow of the River Turret and framed by the rolling Perthshire hills, Glenturret’s whitewashed buildings and pagoda roofs have changed little since the 18th century. Here, whisky is still made the traditional way in small copper pot stills, resulting in a rich, full-bodied Highland single malt with a depth and character that’s becoming a rare find these days.In recent years, Glenturret has embraced a new chapter. Glenturret claims to be Scotland's oldest working distillery, with records of distilling on the site from 1763. It's certainly one of the oldest continually operating distilleries in the country, though the exact claim is contested by a handful of other historic distilleries.
Glenturret Distillery is just outside Crieff in Highland Perthshire, about 18 miles west of Perth and 50 miles north of Edinburgh, in a lovely setting on the banks of the River Turret.
The Glenturret Lalique is the fine-dining restaurant at the distillery, a collaboration with the French crystal house Lalique, which is also one of Glenturret's investors. It holds two Michelin stars and ranks among Scotland's finest restaurants, serving an ambitious tasting menu built on the best Scottish ingredients. Book well ahead.
Glenturret single malt is full-bodied and richly textured, with notes of dried fruit, malt and gentle spice. Unlike many Highland distilleries it uses traditional stone open-top mash tuns and very slow distillation, which produces a distinctively weighty, characterful spirit. The range runs from 10 years old upwards.
