About

Midhope Castle

For Outlander fans, Midhope Castle is nothing short of iconic. Known as Lallybroch, the beloved Fraser family home, it welcomes visitors from all over the world to a peaceful corner of the Hopetoun Estate in West Lothian. Built around 1582 for the Drummond family, this striking tower house stands on the edge of the estate near South Queensferry. Its distinctive shape and later courtyard are instantly familiar as the home of Jamie and Claire Fraser. When production designer Jon Gary Steele chose it as Lallybroch in 2014, it was still a hidden gem, waiting to be discovered.Midhope is a scheduled ancient monument, lovingly cared for by the Hopetoun Estate and open to visitors on a guided tour. As you wander through the exterior, courtyard and surrounding grounds, you will find everything just as it appears on screen - a true working Scottish estate with a centuries-old tower at its centre. Your Hopscotch guide will bring both the real history and the Outlander story to life as you explore, and you will have the chance to capture a photo on the very steps the Frasers called home.
