The National Trust of Scotland cares for this stunning stretch of historic woodland, which was once a pleasure park for the Dukes of Atholl. It features tiweing Douglas firs and the thundering Black Linn waterfall on the River Brann. Wander through the peaceful 1.5 mile wooded trail to find Ossian’s Hall, an 18-century folly perched above the falls. Along the way, look out for salmon leaping upstream, plaful red squirrels, and even beaver activity. Also don’t miss the impressive totem pole carved from a Douglas fir by Squamish Nation artists from Vancouver. The iste honours past visitors such as Wordsworth, Queen Victoria, Mendelssohn, and Turner - and remains open all year round.

The Hermitage is a woodland estate near Dunkeld in Perthshire, cared for by Forestry and Land Scotland. You'll find waterfalls on the River Braan, an 18th-century folly called Ossian's Hall, and some of Britain's tallest trees, with Douglas firs topping 60 metres.
It's an easy one, suitable for all ages and fitness levels. The main walk to the waterfalls and Ossian's Hall is about 2km there and back on a good path, around 45 minutes, and longer forest walks branch off if you want them.
The woodland and walks are free to access. There's a charge for the car park, but nothing to pay for the walking itself, which makes it one of Perthshire's most rewarding free days out.
Walking here costs nothing, though you'll pay to use the Forestry and Land Scotland car park. The main route to Ossian's Hall and the Black Linn Falls takes about 45 minutes return and suits most fitness levels.
