Bowmore is Islay’s main town, situated on the shores of Loch Indaal, which is well-known for its famous Bowmore Distillery, the oldest on the island, founded in 1779. The distillery is located in the centre of town, and welcomes visitors for tours and tastings of its well known peated malt. The renowned Round Church, is said to be built without corners so evil spirits have nowhere to hide. The main street connects the church to the harbour, with a variety of local shops, a supermarket, post office, restaurants and more - making Bowmore a charming and convenient base for exploring Islay.
