FAQs
Eilean Donan is one of the most photographed castles in the world, thanks to its island setting where three sea lochs meet. It was largely destroyed in 1719 and painstakingly restored between 1919 and 1932.
The castle has featured in plenty of films, most famously Highlander (1986), The World Is Not Enough (1999) and Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007), plus many TV programmes and documentaries.
That title usually goes to Eilean Donan Castle, regularly named the most photographed spot in Scotland and one of the most photographed castles anywhere.
It wasn't. Braveheart (1995) was shot mainly in Ireland and at other Scottish locations. The imagery people link with the film comes more from Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument area.
