You'll find the University of Glasgow (founded 1451), Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Kelvingrove Park, the Botanic Gardens, and Byres Road, the neighbourhood's main street for shops and socialising. It's the most bohemian, culturally rich part of the city.
Start with Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, which is free to enter, then the Gothic buildings of the University of Glasgow, the Botanic Gardens and the Hunterian Museum. Byres Road and Great Western Road are lined with cafés and restaurants worth lingering over.
The West End is Glasgow's most affluent area, especially the streets around Park Circus and Dowanhill, where the Victorian townhouses and terraces are some of the finest in Scotland.
The West End sits about 1.5 miles west of the city centre. That's roughly 10 minutes by taxi, 15 on the Underground (Hillhead and Kelvinhall stations), or a 30-minute walk along Sauchiehall Street.
