On the eastern edge of Loch Tay, is the picturesque village of Kenmore - well known for its activities on and around the loch. Take in the breathtaking scenery of the area that is perfect for a spot of lunch and a photo opportunity. Kenmore provides a variety of water sport activities, including sailing, canoeing, water-skiing, and jet-biking as well as the more mild activities such as fishing and golf. There are local hotels, The Courtyard restaurant, and a shop selling souvenirs and local produce. One of Scotland’s top heritage sites, The Scottish Crannog Centre, provides a glimpse into the life more than 2,500 years ago through a restored Iron Age home perched on stilts above the loch. Kenmore is the nearest village, sitting at the eastern end of Loch Tay. Killin lies at the western end, and Aberfeldy, about 6 miles from Kenmore, is the largest town nearby.
Kenmore is one of Scotland's oldest planned villages, laid out by the 3rd Earl of Breadalbane in 1760 to house estate workers. Robert Burns stopped by in 1787 and wrote a poem on the chimney of the Kenmore Hotel, which you can still see today.
Wild swimming in Loch Tay is popular, but the water stays cold, typically 10 to 15°C even in summer, so it's really one for the brave.
There's kayaking, sailing, wild swimming and fishing for salmon and brown trout. The Scottish Crannog Centre, a reconstruction of an Iron Age loch dwelling, is one of Scotland's most unusual attractions.
