Loch Tay

Considered one of Scotland’s deepest lochs and the largest in Perthshire, Loch Tay stretches out 15 miles an dits surrounded by the Ben Lawers mountain range and breathtaking scenery. With many archaeological treasures hidden beneath the surface, its murky waters attract both divers and history buffs. The southern coast has softer paths providing a gentle route for cycling along the Sustrans Route 7, while the northern shore is dramatic and mountainous. Loch Tay also has a fascinating human history. Crannogs, that are artificial islands raised on wooden stilts, were once inhabited by ancient people. Most of are now submerged, however one near Kenmore is still visible and linked to Queen Sybilla, the wife of King Alexander of Scots.
