Kilt Rock is a magnificent cliff face on Skye’s Trotternish Peninsula whose basalt columns mimic a Scottish kilt’s pleats. Beside it is Mealt Falls, which is one of the most photographed locations in Skye, and plunges 60 meters straight into the sea. You can soak in and ejoy the expansive views across the Isle of Raasay and the mainland. Kilt Rock is a must see highlight of any Skye trip due to its breathtaking cliffs, tumbling waterfall and sea sound. It can be easily accesible from the car park or roadside viewpoint.

Kilt Rock is known for its basalt sea cliffs on Skye's Trotternish Peninsula, where vertical columns of dark rock look like the pleats of a kilt. Next to it, Mealt Falls drops 55 metres straight into the sea, making this one of Skye's most photogenic spots.
The cliffs rise around 90 metres above the sea on Skye's Trotternish coast, with the Mealt Waterfall alongside dropping about 55 metres to the shore.
It's one of Skye's most accessible viewpoints. A free car park sits a short walk from the viewing platform overlooking the cliffs and waterfall, and 15 to 20 minutes is plenty for a visit.
The Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls viewpoint is free to visit and open at any time, with a free car park just off the A855.
