Luss
Luss is one of Scotland’s most prettiest stops and is a conservation village, just 10 miles south of Tarbet on Loch Lomond’s western shore. With origins dating back to medieval times, the current village has similar slate and sandstone cottages covered in roses, and was built in the 18th and 19th centuries to house slate quarry workers. It’s famous for being the charming setting for the popular 1980s TV soap High Road. Visitors can explore the serene 19th century parish church with its Victorian stained glass windows, take a stroll down to the pier for breathtaking views of Ben Lomond, or even just soak in the stunning scenery. Luss has become a favourite spot for visitors to Loch Lomond, with nearby Rossdhu House, a championship golf course that hosts the Barclays Scottish Open. Its slate-roofed cottages on the western shore of Loch Lomond, backed by the loch and mountains, make one of Scotland's most photographed scenes. The village stood in as fictional 'Glendarroch' in the long-running Scottish series Take the High Road.
The main ones are Balloch at the southern end, Luss on the western shore, and Balmaha to the east. Alexandria and Dumbarton lie a little further south.
Luss is the best-known village on the western shore. Others on that side include Inverbeg, Tarbet, Ardlui and Inverarnan, running north along the A82 towards the Highlands.
Luss is small, so 20 to 30 minutes covers the main streets and the pier. Many people add a lochside path or a boat trip from the pier to make more of the visit.
