Mallaig

Very much so. Mallaig is one of the most atmospheric ports on the west coast, a working fishing harbour framed by mountains and sea with ferry links to Skye and the Small Isles. It's also the western terminus of the Jacobite Steam Train from Fort William, so it tends to be a highlight on any Road to the Isles itinerary.

You can. CalMac run a frequent crossing from Mallaig to Armadale on Skye's Sleat peninsula. It takes around 30 minutes and runs seasonally from spring through autumn, a popular way to reach the island without driving north via Kyle of Lochalsh.

The Road to the Isles is the scenic route running west from Fort William to Mallaig, through some of the most dramatic Highland landscapes in Scotland, including the silver sands of Morar and Loch Shiel with its Glenfinnan Viaduct. The name comes from the old drove road once used by cattle traders, and the route today is famous for the Jacobite Steam Train that follows the same railway line.

In a sense it does. The Jacobite Steam Train, the real locomotive used as the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter films, runs between Fort William and Mallaig and crosses the Glenfinnan Viaduct on the way. Mallaig is the western terminus, so the train arrives and departs from the town's station through the summer season.
