Neist Point is on the west coast of the Isle of Skye and is one of the best spots in Scotland to see wildlife and sunsets. Just a short stroll along the clifftops, you will find Neist Point Lighthouse that is perched on a rocky headland with stunning views over the sea. It's the most westerly point of the Isle of Skye, known for its lighthouse on a headland and its long views across the Minch to the Outer Hebrides. From the shore you've a good chance of spotting whales, dolphins and basking sharks.
It's about 2 miles there and back, roughly 45 to 60 minutes. The path drops steeply to the lighthouse over some uneven ground, but most visitors manage it fine with decent footwear.
It's one of the better spots in Scotland for the Northern Lights, thanks to its westerly position, dark skies and clear northern horizon. Aim for clear nights between September and March.
It's about 30 miles west of Portree, around 45 to 50 minutes by car on the A863 and B884. It works well as a half-day trip, often paired with Dunvegan Castle.
