Oban has several historical landmarks, including St. Columba’s Cathedral, a beautiful neo-Gothic cathedral from the 1930s, and the famous McCaig’s Tower. Often called the ‘Gateway to the Isles’, many visitors visit Oban as part of a west coast adventure. Oban is known as the Seafood Capital of Scotland, a busy coastal town with plenty of seafood restaurants, a working fishing harbour and ferries to the Western Isles. It's also home to Oban Distillery, one of the most scenically set whisky producers in the country.
That's Oban, on the Argyll coast, known for the freshness of the langoustines, scallops, oysters and crabs landed at its working harbour.
May and June bring the best mix of decent weather, long days and lighter crowds before the summer peak. September is a good bet too, quieter, with lovely autumn light and ferries still running to full timetable.
Oban single malt is only lightly peated, more coastal than smoky. It's one of the Classic Malts of Scotland, balancing fruity, honeyed sweetness with a touch of sea salt and gentle smoke.
