Depending on what's happening on the roads - or in the skies there are refreshments to pack, scenic roads to tweak and the weather to check (four seasons in one day is no joke). Michael, our guide, is known for planning routes meticulously while allowing time impromptu detours to hidden lochs or unplanned photo stops. Umbrellas are discreetly tucked away if rain is predicted.

Every Guest is a New Story
What our guides love the most is that no two days are ever the same!
One day it’s a family with children who want to explore castles, puffins and meet Highland Cows. Next, it’s a couple from New York wanting to trace their Scottish ancestry through remote kirkyards.
Our guide, Fraser, is exceptional at tailoring a tour around the interest and needs of our guests. Whether it’s a detour to avoid the bad weather or a spontaneous photo stop at a stunning spot, these choices enhance the day without disrupting the plan of the tour. He also has a keen sense of reading the room. Some passengers enjoy a running commentary and active conversation, whilst others prefer to quietly soak in the magnificent views along the way.
What Makes a Great Guide?
Above everything else, a love for Scotland.
But also timing, humour, flexibility and stamina. Our guide, Stewart, might start the day with a few lively Scottish phrases, setting the tone with his sharp Glaswegian wit! He’ll have you laughing one minute, then quietly sharing a dram at a hidden spot beside a loch next.
Great guides know their facts - but more importantly they know how to bring their facts to life! Yes they can tell you when a castle was built, but they’ll also tell you about the clan conflict that may have left the tower half-burned and yet standing, or the ghost that is said to haunt its halls. They are also experts at the unexpected, albeit a road closure, a flat tyre, a guest who left their camera at the last stop! They manage the unexpected with calm and humour - usually with a story to fill the time.
