Applecross

The village of Applecross is not called Applecross locally. Instead it is referred to as ‘the street’. This wild peninsula in Wester Ross feels like the edge of the world, probably because of its inaccessibility. You can reach Applecross by a winding coast road from Shielding, to the north on Loch Torridon, with stunning views along the way or the Bealach na Ba (Pass of the Cattle). This road is one of the highest in Britain, climbing to 2,053 feet with Alpine-style hairpin bends before dropping down to the quiet street, from where there are incredible views across the bay to Raasay and Skye. It is also famous for its stretch of the Noth Coast 500 driving route, which is a circular driving route from Inverness. This area is steeped in history and is believed to been of Scotland’s earliest settlements.
