Killin

Killin is known above all for the Falls of Dochart, a run of rapids and cascades that pours through the middle of the village over ancient volcanic rock and is best seen from the old bridge. The village sits at the western end of Loch Tay and is the traditional territory of Clan MacNab, whose burial island lies in the middle of the falls.

Killin is about 60 miles north-west of Edinburgh, roughly 1 hour 20 minutes by car via Callander and the A85. Sitting at the western end of Loch Tay, it's a natural stop on a Trossachs or Breadalbane day tour from Edinburgh or Glasgow.

The Breadalbane Folklore Centre occupies the old mill beside the Falls of Dochart and covers the legends, history and culture of the area, including the MacNab clan and the healing stones of Saint Fillan. It opens seasonally from spring through autumn and adds nicely to a visit to the falls.

Beyond the falls, Killin gives you access to Glen Lochay and Glen Dochart for walking and cycling, the shores of Loch Tay for kayaking and fishing, and the Ben Lawers National Nature Reserve for hill walking and Alpine flora. The village has a good range of cafes and a few local shops.
